HUDSON:  The Board of Education began its annual tour of district buildings prior to the regular meeting on Monday.

The focus was on East Woods Elementary and the attached natatorium, along with the high school.

Work is underway on security modifications at both facilities.

In the wake of the Connecticut shootings last year, Hudson administrators conducted a security review of all buildings,  and the Board of Education budgeted approximately $653,000 for modifications, according to business manager Derek Cluse.

The main entrance at East Woods will be modified so that all visitors will be funneled through a secure entrance visible from the office.

The natatorium will be similarly modified, with access to student locker rooms strictly controlled.

At the high school, both the main entrance and the auditorium entrances are being altered to control access to the main portions of the school.

As part of the high school modifications, a new conference room has been added at the main entrance, along with a new athletic office, where tickets to sporting events will be able to be purchased without the necessity of the public accessing the student areas of the school. The Board of Education began its annual tour of district buildings prior to the regular meeting on Monday.
