Historian Richard Beeman to speak at American Heritage Series at Hudson Library & Historical Society

HUDSON: Historian Richard Beeman will inaugurate the Hudson Library & Historical Society's new American Heritage Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The series aims to explore the nation's historical underpinninngs and its subsequent development.

Beeman's new book, Our Lives, Our Fortunes and Our Sacred Honor: The Forging of American Independence, 1774-1776, tells the story of how America was turned from a colony into a republic, and how Americans turned from subjects to citizens.

Beeman is an American historian specializing in the American Revolution and is the John Walsh Centennial Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the board of trustees of the National Constitution Center and has served as director of the Philadelphia Center for Early American Studies and as editor of American Quarterly.
