Hudson City Council President David Basil announced the retirement of council member John Jeffers, effective immediately, at council’s workshop Tuesday.

Basil said that Jeffers' services for the past nine years were "greatly appreciated," and that "we will miss him."

Jeffers has only 2013 remaining on his term, and applications are now being accepted for those from Ward 4 interested in serving out the year.

A new council member from Ward 4 will be elected next November.

Basil said applications will be accepted until the close of business on Jan. 3.

Applicants must have been a resident of Ward 4 for at least two years, and be registered to vote in order to be eligible for consideration.
