No deer hunting will be permitted on the site of the former Youth Development Center in 2012.

Council considered the matter at its workshop on Tuesday and nixed the idea for this year's hunting season.

Council member Hal DeSaussure says that since the season is already halfway over, there wasn't sufficient time to address safety concerns.

"There are still potential users touring the site," says DeSaussure.

Council President David Basil also spoke of water treatment  employees working in the area, which would be another safety concern that would have to be resolved before permitting the hunting.

Council will be making decisions as to the future of the YDC site in the upcoming months, DeSaussure said, and by next year's season, the questions concerning safety can be fully answered.
