Safe Routes Hudson was unanimously approved as a school organization at the district's board meeting on Monday.

SRH is a collaboration between the Hudson schools, the City of Hudson and Community First.

The district received a $97,600 grant earlier in the year to encourage walking and biking to school.

Brenda Divine was appointed as coordinator of the two-year project.

Divine organized the first "Walk to School Day" on Oct. 17.  Students in grades kindergarten through eighth living within a two-mile radius of the school were encouraged to either walk or bike to school on that date.

The city has also received a $210,000 grant as part of this project, which will be used over the next two years for infrastructure.
