The state champion North Canton Hoover softball team placed two players — Erika Warren and Jenna Lilley — on the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Division I first team.
Warren and Lilley were both integral pieces of a Vikings team that won consecutive state titles the past two years at Firestone Stadium.
Warren, a senior catcher, has signed to play with Kent State University.
Lilley, a sophomore shortstop, has committed to play for the University of Oregon.
Hoover, which has won six state titles, has compiled a combined record of 60-6 during the past two seasons.
Copley junior infielder Lizzie Fela and Medina senior pitcher Bobbi Langlois were also selected for the All-Ohio Division I first team. Copley senior infielder Casey Burns and Louisville senior pitcher Brittany Flanigan each received second-team honors.
Garnering an honorable mention in Division I were Hudson senior pitcher Casey Brown, Twinsburg sophomore outfielder Kourtney Paul and Massillon senior catcher Jessica Reiman.
In Division II, Woodridge senior pitcher Amy Donze was tabbed for the second team. Woodridge senior catcher Heather Schneider and Marlington senior catcher Brooklynn Dimit received honorable mention.
Black River junior pitcher Dagmar Smith and Hillsdale senior infielder Jennifer Moore were chosen for the Division III first team. Canton Central Catholic put two on the second team, senior catcher Lauren Gambone and sophomore infielder Caitlin Gambone.
Waynesdale senior pitcher Trinity Schlabach and Waterloo senior catcher Brooke Hurd got an honorable mention in Division III.
In Division IV, the first-team list included St. Thomas Aquinas junior infielder Sarah Mudd. Aquinas sophomore outfielder Nicole Fisher was named to the second team.
Baseball honors
The Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association released its All-Ohio list.
Walsh Jesuit junior catcher Cassidy Brown was selected for the Division I first team and Brunswick senior Tyler Greiner was an honorable mention.
Canton South senior pitcher Logan Bowles and Marlington junior outfielder Dymonte Thomas were honored in Division II on the first team and second team, respectively. Getting an honorable mention were Ravenna’s Brandon Holt, Alliance’s Nathan Rice and Woodridge’s John Weniger.
In Division III, Hillsdale catcher Sam Young earned a first-team spot. Tuslaw’s Graham Burrow, Canton Central Catholic’s Brad Frohman and Manchester’s Cody Herman received an honorable mention.
The second-team list in Division IV included Rittman teammates Dylan Litman and Tyler Hooser. Rittman’s Lance Horner was an honorable mention.
Tennis honors
Walsh Jesuit sophomore Aaron Sandberg has been named to the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association All-Ohio Division I first team.
Cloverleaf sophomore Jacob Dunbar earned a second-team spot along with Revere senior Peter Harris and Revere sophomore Noah Hendrickson.
UA recruit earns award
University of Akron recruit Kenzie Conrad has been selected as the Gatorade Ohio Softball Player of the Year after completing her career at LaGrange Keystone High School.
The award recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. She is a finalist for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award, which will be announced this month.
Conrad, a 5-foot-11 right-handed pitcher, led the Wildcats (32-0) to the Division II state championship as a senior. She posted a 25-0 record in the circle along with a 0.74 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 142 innings she pitched. She also batted .485 with 11 home runs, 44 RBI and a 1.031 slugging percentage.
Hudson Junior to tee off
The annual Hudson Junior Invitational starts today at the Country Club of Hudson and will run through Thursday.
This is the 34th year for the boys tournament and the 33rd year for the girls tournament. Players from around North America will play 54 holes of golf (a round of 18 each day). Tee times range from 6:20 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.
Area players to watch include Highland senior-to-be Jessica Porvasnik and Stow junior-to-be Ian Holt.
Porvasnik, an Ohio State University recruit, won the Hudson Junior girls event last year with a score of 2-over-par 218.
Holt shared the boys Division I state golf tournament title last year with Cleveland St. Ignatius senior Beau Titsworth. Both golfers carded an 8-over 150 in the 86th annual boys tournament on Ohio State’s Scarlet Course.
David Faraudo Godinez, of Guadalajara, Mexico, won the Hudson Junior boys title last year with a score of 3-over 219. He is not entered in this year’s tournament. Holt was the highest local boys finisher at Hudson last year, tying for seventh at 226.
