Gangloff fails to make Olympic swim team

Mark Gangloff (Firestone) finished in fifth place in the 100-meter breast stroke and failed to make the U.S. Olympic team at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Tuesday in Omaha, Neb.

Gangloff, the U.S. record holder in the event with a time of 59.01 seconds, finished with a time of 1:00.74, 1.06 seconds behind first-place Brendan Hansen.
Gangloff set the U.S. record in Indianapolis in 2009.

More swimming

Green High School graduate and University of Toledo swimmer Laura Lindsay just missed advancing to the semifinals in the 100-meter breast stroke at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

Lindsay finished 19th with a time of 1:09.52. The 16th and final qualifying time was 1:09.39. Danielle Margheret, who will be a senior at Walsh Jesuit, finished 131st with a time of 1:13.52.

Lindsay will compete in the 200-meter breast stroke Friday.

Track and field

Firestone graduate LaShaunte’a Moore reached the semifinals in the 100-meter dash at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., but her 13th-place finish (11.33) left her out of the final. Moore will compete in the 200-meter dash preliminaries at 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
