HUDSON: Red was the color of the day in Hudson on Friday.  It was the kickoff for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign.

The Merchants of Hudson will be supporting this effort to promote heart health for women throughout the month of February.

At the Western Reserve School of Cooking, anything red that is not already on sale will have 10 percent off this month.

At Great Clips of Hudson, manager Krissy Skeriotis and her daughter Kayla, 11, embraced the cause.  Kayla has designed beaded bracelets for sale for $2.  A dollar will go to the AHA for every one sold.  Krissy and her co-workers have made other items such as candles to assist in the fund-raising effort.

If you stop in at the Learned Owl book shop wearing red any day this month, make a purchase, and remind the staff, a dollar will be donated to AHA and you will be entered into a drawing for a $25 dollar gift card.

Those enjoying a red martini at Hudson's restaurant in February will see a portion of the proceeds donated. A dollar will also go to the cause for those drinking a French Kiss martini at D'Agnese's Tomato Grill.

For chocolate lovers, Hershey's of Hudson will donate 10 percent of all proceeds from sales of chocolate-covered strawberries ordered between February 9 through the 16.

Many other merchants in Hudson are offering deals and discounts throughout the month, and are selling paper hearts for a $1 donation. For the complete list of discounts and offerings see www.merchantsofhudson.com.
